Revitalization grant benefits historic bank building in Glens Falls

The Business Review (Albany)

National Grid is providing a $28,900 grant to help rehabilitate the historic bank building at 136 Glen St. in downtown Glens Falls.

The money is being made available through the utility's Main Street Revitalization grant program and is being provided to the Warren County Economic Development Corp.

"EDC is a strong supporter of National Grid's Main Street Program, which is designed to assist communities working to revitalize central business districts," said Len Fosbrook, president of the Warren County Economic Development Corp. "This grant will facilitate Glen Street Associates' ability to redevelop an under-utilized historic building into commercial and residential space that will produce new jobs, investment, and tax revenues."

The project will produce 6,600 square feet of residential, retail and commercial space. About 20 jobs should be created. The National Grid grant will finance the installation and upgrade of a new heating, ventilation and air conditioning system in the building.

The total cost of the privately funded project is $250,000.

National Grid provides Main Street Revitalization grants to projects in central business districts that have gas or electrical infrastructure that is under-utilized, are in buildings in targeted redevelopment areas, and which will produce or retain jobs.

National Grid is an electric utility that serves close to 4 million customers across 29,000 square miles of Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York and Rhode Island.
