Organizing

Every Union organizing campaign begins because one person or a group a people, decide to improve the current working conditions. Most non- represented workers are considered to be "at-will" employees simply stated these employees can be terminated for absolutely no reason at all.

The goal of Union representation is to provide fair treatment, safe working conditions, job security, and equitable wages and benefits to all employees. Union representation eliminates favoritism and promotes democracy. Union representation is the great equalizer to corporate greed. When employees are stuck in the middle and feeling helpless union representation affords employees a voice in their work place.

Organizing

America's 16.2 million union members represent a cross section of people -- women and men of all ages, races and ethnic groups. They work in hospitals and nursing homes, auto assembly plants and on construction sites, trains, buses and airplanes. They are security guards, engineers, office workers, musicians, electricians, postal workers, janitors and more.

UNION MEMBER of the CENTURY!

Albert Einstein, Time magazine's Person of the Century was a visionary scientist, philosopher, teacher -- and union member. In fact, he was a founding member of the
Princeton Federation of Teachers Local 552, signing its charter in 1938. Look, he was a pretty smart guy, right? Well? What are you waiting for!

YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO:

A Safe Workplace

Employers are required to provide a workplace free of recognized health and safety hazards. You have the right to file complaints with the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration, to bring job safety hazards to your employer's attention without retaliation and to get information from your employer about hazardous workplace exposures.

Overtime Pay

Employers must pay you overtime at the rate of one-and-a-half times the normal rate of pay if you work more than 40 hours in a week. However, many workers-such as managers, professionals and certain sales employees-are exempt from overtime pay.

Equal Pay

Employers may not pay unequal wages to men and women who perform jobs that require substantially equal skill, effort and responsibility, and that are performed under similar working conditions within the same company.
