Brotherhood of Utility Workers Council
Affiliated with the Utility Workers Union of America, AFL-CIO
The Brotherhood of Utility Workers Council was an independent national union, prior to merging with the Utility Workers Union of America, AFL-CIO in 2000. The BUW was established in 1935 to provide collective representation for the various gas and electric Utility Worker Locals in New England. The purpose of the council is to maintain alliances, provides support, disseminate information, collectively bargain, and speak with one voice the pursuit for just and reasonable conditions of employment for all members of the Utility Workers Union of America, AFL-CIO.
The Mission statement of the Brotherhood of Utility Workers is to organize all utility employees and workers into local unions, to enable them to obtain the benefits of collective representation and bargaining in all questions concerning wages, rules, regulations, and working conditions, to promote safety for the public and to aid in maintaining satisfactory relations between the public and utility industry.
